SDG7 commits the world to ending energy poverty by “ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030.” Yet we have no accepted international indicator for reliability. A new approach developed by Morgan Bazilian, John Ayaburi, Jake Kincer, and Todd Moss provides one estimate: 3.5 billion people live without ‘reasonably reliable’ electricity.
