Which countries are ready for advanced nuclear technologies?
Advanced nuclear could help scale carbon-free energy in high-demand countries around the world

Problem

Many countries have taken steps to get ready for advanced nuclear technology as a potential future low-carbon energy source. Yet there is no comprehensive publicly-available analysis of market demand or preparatory progress.

Relevance

Worldwide demand for electricity could more than double by 2050, with growth largely in the emerging markets of Africa and Asia. At the same time, supplier countries like the United States are developing and are close to commercializing advanced nuclear reactors. These new technologies could be one solution to providing carbon-free energy at scale to emerging markets that need to meet ambitious development and climate objectives.

Our Approach

The Hub partnered with Third Way to develop a first-of-a-kind ‘nuclear readiness’ assessment and electricity demand projections in 2030 and 2050 for 148 countries. This data is used to create an interactive map with additional contextual information to help understand the market potential around the world.
