Sylvain Degolmal Ngaryo is a principal energy policy officer in charge of international cooperation at the African Energy Commission (AFREC), the specialized energy agency of the African Union (AU). In this role, Sylvain is in charge of policies development, technical advisory, partnerships engagement, capacity building and resource mobilization through international cooperation to promote sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure for industrial development of Africa while accelerating the energy transition toward a decarbonized future. Prior to this position, Sylvain was the project manager for the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility, a $115-million initiative led by the AU and funded by KfW, DFID, European Union – African Union Infrastructure Trust Fund to de-risk the early-stage exploration phases and expand geothermal in twelve East Africa Rift Systems countries.
He holds an Executive Master in Policy and Development Management from Sciences Po (The Paris School of International Affairs) and a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Felix Houphouet Boigny National Polytechnic Institute (Côte d’Ivoire). He is a Master of Science in Foreign Service program Candidate at Georgetown University (Class of 2024) with a concentration in International Development. His main topics of interest are energy transition, energy infrastructure and finance, and climate change.
